Excuse me! I am not a model hor!

Last Monday, on behalf of Bloggers in Big Shoes, I was on my way to meet with one of the S. League Clubs when something curious happened.

I was walking towards the City Hall MRT station escalator when this young lady suddenly raced up to me.

“Excuse me!Excuse me! Sir, can you please wait?” She pleaded. “I’m not selling anything.”

Giving her a quick cursory glance, I realized that she did not have a lanyard or clipboard in hand, so I quickly summarized that she wasn’t conducting any surveys, nor was she trying to get me to sign up for a credit card. She was also quite a ‘sweet young thing’ so I decided to stop and listen.

“What do you want?” I asked rather dryly, still somewhat suspicious of her intentions.

Rather shyly, she told me her name and she handed me her name card. “I’m from a talent agency and we’re looking for fresh faces and models for events.”

Ok. I wasn’t expecting that. I was rather taken aback and incredibly flattered.

“And you want me?” I asked, somewhat puzzled.

I had always found myself to be rather good-looking. But it’s important to realized that I’m a good-humoured egoist.

I was fearful that I would run late for my appointment with the S League team, so I handed her my namecard from The Agency.

Later in the day, I met Yi-Hui to return the netbook she lent me for the meeting with the S League football club.

“Eh, I was talented scouted by a modelling agency today leh!” I boasted to her.

“Those agencies make money by trying to get people to sign up and pay for modelling classes lor,” she said rather matter-of-factly.

“Aiyah,” I said with a dismissive wave of my hand, “you’re just jealous that no modelling agency has ever talent scouted you lah,” I said with a cheeky smile.

Something tells me that I will be using this incident to tease and possibly irritate Yi-Hui for quite a while.

“Oi, when your grandpa was young, he was scouted by a modelling agency ok?”

“Haiz. Nevermind him. He’s been that way for the last 60 years.”
